Maha Shivratri is dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva.
Lord Shiva is known as the God of the gods.
But he is also very dear to the non-gods such as ghosts (bhoota)
and asuras (so called demons or villains of society), humans, sub-humans,
gandharva and rakshasas and other entities and spirits and night dwellers.
This night –SHIVARATRI-- they ALL have a chance to worship
Him together.
(Shiva is Name of Lord. Ratri means night hence Night of
Shiva.)
Lord Shiva is very kind and very dear to all these sprits
and gods and humans.
Infact he is also know as Bhootnath --means the Lord of
Spirits (Bhootas)
He also known as Anaathnath means Lord of Orphans. Anaath means orphan (one who does not have
anyone).
As long as Shiva is there, no one is an orphan, as he is
their naath (Lord)
So His blessing is upon
all of society and this one special night is a chance for ALL to come together and
leave their differences and join in the worship of GOD.
This night is yet another
opportunities for all to leave their bad ways and get a chance to change for
the good.
This is my take on the whole event of Shivaratri.
